Reporting to: Adult Services Delivery Manager/ Adult Services Manager
Pay scale: £7,020 per annum (£13.50 per hr)
Hours: 10 hours per week; 12pm – 2pm, Monday – Friday
Probationary Period: Three months
Type: Part-time, permanent post

Description of Paces Sheffield:

Paces Sheffield is a specialist centre and charity for children and adults with neurological conditions (mainly cerebral palsy). Paces deliver Conductive Education: a holistic package of support that aims to help individuals obtain the greatest level of independence through a range of supportive measures.
Paces meets the physical and cognitive needs of individuals which are often not met holistically elsewhere.

Paces Sheffield was established in 1995; the organisation was born out of the experiences of parenting pupils with physical disabilities and their related learning difficulties.

Parents, employees, governors and trustees have overseen the growth of Paces as a charity.

Paces Adult Service operates a provision for adults with a range of conditions, mainly cerebral palsy. In order to help our adults live as independently as possible throughout their lives, our service teaches and promotes life skills alongside conductive education and offers a variety of fun and interesting activities to make sure our adults enjoy a fulfilled day.

Paces School gained Non-Maintained Special School status in 2009 and were rated “Good” by Ofsted in 2024. The school currently has 65 children aged 3-18, and provides a personalised curriculum based on the National Curriculum through the framework of Conductive Education.

Job Summary:

The role will be to support the Adult Services Team with a variety of tasks to ensure that the planning and implementing of the daily Conductive Education programme is completed correctly and all procedures and policies are followed accordingly over the lunch-time period. The role will include providing personal care to service users such as feeding and toileting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The post holder will undertake all tasks required within the remit of this role, including but not limited to:

• Support service users with eating and drinking in line with individual care plans, speech and language therapy guidance, and risk assessments.
• Carry out peg feeding in accordance with individual care plans in a safe manor.
• Promote good hygiene practices before, during, and after meals.
• Record and report concerns relating to food intake, hydration, or eating behaviours to the appropriate staff member.
• Administration of medication in accordance with individual care plans and adhering to adults services medication policy and procedure.
• Provide personal care support with dignity, respect, and sensitivity in accordance with the service policies and individual care plans.
• Support services users with toileting, changing, handwashing, and continence needs as required.
• Use appropriate moving and handling techniques and equipment safely.
• Promote service users’ independence and self-care skills wherever possible.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and infection control.
• Report any safeguarding, medical, or wellbeing concerns promptly to senior staff.
• Encourage communication, and social interaction during lunchtime.
• Support service users to access inclusive activities safely.
• Help service users develop friendships, turn-taking, confidence, and social skills.
• Supporting the delivery of Conductive Education programmes.
• Promote an enjoyable, calm, and inclusive lunchtime environment.
• Follow all adult service policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour, and equality policies.
• Log all relevant information of work done using a digital care platform and/ or paper based records.
• Work collaboratively with Conductors, therapists and support staff.
• Attend relevant training, including feeding, moving and handling, first aid, and safeguarding.

General Responsibilities
• Follow all Adult service policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour, and equality policies.

Experience
• Experience working with children or adults with special educational needs

• Commitment to play a full part in the life of the adult services community.
• Due to the nature of the role a good level of physical fitness is required to support individuals in their movement programmes, with moving and handling and to enable them to be as independent as possible.

Qualifications / Training
• Willingness to attend recommended training programmes for their own professional development.
