Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Health and Safety Advisor to join the Norwich City Services Limited (NCSL) team. If you are highly organised, willing and able to undertake health and safety qualification, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role?
We are seeking a motivated individual to support the delivery of high‑quality health and safety activity across our services. You will assist the Business Partner in implementing policies, procedures and safe systems of work, providing practical guidance within your competence. The role includes supporting risk assessments, participating in inspections and audits, accurately recording findings and helping progress actions. You will contribute to incident investigations by gathering evidence, tracking learning and supporting follow‑up. The post also involves assisting with inductions, briefings and toolbox talks, promoting positive safety behaviours across frontline teams. You will help maintain records, performance data and reporting dashboards, developing knowledge of statutory requirements such as RIDDOR. As part of a structured development programme, you will build your technical capability and work towards progression to a Health and Safety Advisor role, collaborating closely with colleagues across Health, Safety, Compliance and Facilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in an operational environment, following procedures, standards and safe systems of work with strong attention to detail. They will have exposure to health and safety activity such as inspections, toolbox talks, incident reporting or compliance monitoring, and be confident engaging colleagues at all levels. Organised, proactive and eager to learn, they will be willing to undertake professional qualifications and apply feedback quickly. Strong communication skills, competent IT ability and a commitment to safe working, equality, diversity and inclusion are essential. Desirable qualities include NVQ Level 3, NEBOSH progress, IOSH membership and awareness of ISO 45001.

This role is for 37 hours per week, but to ensure flexibility and promote an inclusive workplace part time hours or a job share agreement will be considered.
