Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
St James' CE Primary School is looking for a full time class teacher to join our school, starting September 2026. The role is a 12 month maternity cover position, ending August 2027.
For our children, we're a happy and healthy place to achieve and believe. For our staff, we're a happy and healthy place to work:
• ‘It’s great to work with such supportive colleagues.’
• ‘I feel valued as a part of the team.’
(Staff survey, 2026)
We're seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher who shares our commitment to the highest standards, where our children can live and learn in a happy and safe environment. We're committed to raising attainment and accelerating progress through effective pedagogy, a comprehensive curriculum and rigour in everything we do.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate they can be a successful member of our happy and healthy team. This includes someone who shows motivation and enthusiasm and great inter-personal skills.
What the school offers its staff
St James' CE Primary School is committed to supporting teachers’ wellbeing. For example, our commitment to reducing teacher workload is clear in how we organise PPA time: this is always alongside colleagues in school, so you'll benefit from lots of support from other experienced teachers in the same phase.
KS1 and KS2 teachers are invited to apply as we'll be able to reorganise our team for the right person.
We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and early career teachers (ECTs). We have a strong track record of supporting ECTs. The post involves working closely with other teachers within our school, across the phase and across Sphere Federation (Moortown Primary; Scholes (Elmet) Primary; St James' CE Primary). This position will be based at St James', Wetherby.
We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds.
Further details about the role
For further information and an insight into St James' CE Primary, please check out our website, or contact us with any questions.
Closing date for applications is Friday 05 June, 9am. Interviews will take place on Thursday 11 June.
In school, we recognise the value of AI tools and understand that applicants might choose to use these in the application. Please note that applications which stand out are those which are personal and allow us to 'get to know you'. Those invited into school for an interview will be asked to complete a short writing task.
