Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 93-year-old woman living in the Rhoose are with my husband and our dog. I am a retired schoolteacher and was a head mistress at a school in Cardiff.

I used to be an avid reader, but this can be more challenging now so tend to only read the newspaper and watch television for entertainment. I like to engage in conversation and have a good sense of humour.

I have a diagnosis of Dementia, and I am basically bed bound due to a broken hip I suffered a few years ago.

PURPOSE OF JOB

I am looking for 2 PAs to provide 2:1 care for an hour twice a day. You will be required to work with each other to lift me and attend to my personal care. This would suit someone who lives fairly local as they would need to come twice a day so not ideal if travelling from further afield.

HOURS OF WORK

I have two hours available every day, seven days a week, totalling 14 hours a week. One hour will be around lunchtime and the other hour will be early evening between 5 and 7. There is some flexibility with the timings but ideally a similar time each day.

RATES OF PAY

£15 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

Taking me to the toilet (commode) and changing my pads.
Changing me and potentially my sheets if needed.
Giving me lunch/dinner if required.
Talking and engaging with me.
Prompting any medication.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

Female only due to the personal care involved.
A mature person.
A person willing to engage in conversation with me and get to know me better.
Someone who is happy working in a home with a very friendly dog.
A punctual and reliable person.
A kind and friendly person.
Someone who understands and respects the confidentiality of working in someone else’s house.

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four weekly and appropriate holiday pay given.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).

The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
