Darton Academy are looking to appoint a Teacher of Art to join our academy from September 2026 on a full-time basis.
This role presents a fantastic opportunity for any candidate who wishes to take their career to the next level. You will join a talented team and benefit from all the advantages of working for a multi academy trust. As a result of our journey of continuous improvement Darton Academy continues to outperform all other local schools and is now the highest performing school in the area having achieved an above national average Progress 8 score of 0.37 in the Summer 2024. Pupils at Darton Academy made nearly half a grade more progress than those with similar KS2 starting points.
In Summer 2025, Darton Academy pupils achieved results well above both local and national averages. This year, the Academy has also secured the highest attainment in Barnsley for both 5+ (strong passes in English and mathematics) and 4+. We are proud that 65% of pupils achieved a Grade 5 or above in both English and mathematics combined and 79% achieved a Grade 4 or above. In Mathematics, 71% of pupils achieved a grade 5 or above which places us in the top 2% of maintained schools in Yorkshire.

Art is a highly valued and popular subject within the academy, with students achieving exceptional outcomes at Key Stage 4. The department demonstrates strong progress measures, with recent Progress 8 scores of +1.29 in Art and +0.93 in Photography. The department benefits from excellent facilities, including: A dedicated, bespoke art building, a computer suite for photography lessons, specialist photography equipment and access to a wide range of artistic media and techniques. We are committed to providing a rich creative curriculum, including exhibitions, enrichment opportunities, and educational visits that inspire students and celebrate their work.

Essential
• A good degree in an appropriate discipline related to Art (A/C)
• A teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (A/C)
• A strong and secure subject knowledge in Art up to GCSE (A/I)
• Recent and relevant teaching experience (A/I/R)
• Experience of assessment at key stage 3 and 4 (A/I/R)
• Awareness of the strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students (A/I)
• A good understanding of curriculum developments in Art (A/I)
• Able to use a range of teaching and learning strategies (A/I)
• An understanding of how assessment for learning can improve student performance (A/I)
• Confidence in the use of standard computer packages and how these can be used to enhance student learning (A/I)
• Able to use student level data to raise standards (A/I)
• Able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team (A/I)
• Enthusiasm for your subject area (A/I)
• Creative in problem solving together with willingness to take on and try new approaches and ideas (A/I)
• Ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner and to recognise potential safeguarding issues (A/I/R)
• Able to communicate both orally and in writing to students and their parents (A/I/R)
• Able to communicate high expectations to all students (A/I/R)
• Willingness to share good practice across the department and beyond (A/I/R)
