Primary SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH & Behaviour Support
Location: Castleford (WF10)
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a resilient and dedicated Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in the Castleford area.
This full-time, term-time-only position is available for an immediate start and involves supporting pupils across the primary age range with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and behavioural challenges.
The school is looking for a confident and nurturing individual who can build positive relationships with pupils, provide consistent support, and help create a calm and engaging learning environment. The role will involve working both within the classroom and on a 1:1 or small group basis to support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
- Support children across KS1, and KS2 with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions
- Help pupils regulate emotions and remain engaged in learning
- Support positive behaviour strategies and routines within the classroom
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage progress and confidence
- Experience working with children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills
- Ability to remain positive and proactive in challenging situations
- Passion for supporting vulnerable pupils to succeed
- Team Teach or de-escalation training is desirable but not essential
