Summary

Flexible Working

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time.

WMG at the University of Warwick is undertaking a significant investment in Research & Teaching academic recruitment across several strategically important growth areas. As part of this coordinated campaign, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Intelligent Automation and Robotics to join our internationally recognised Automation Systems Group.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and teaching in areas including intelligent automation, robotics, AI-enabled engineering systems, digital twins, adaptive control, and data-driven manufacturing. Working closely with academic, industrial, and international partners, the successful candidate will help develop innovative automation and robotics solutions that address major industrial and societal challenges.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality research, collaborative funding activity, postgraduate supervision, and research-informed teaching within WMG’s highly interdisciplinary and industry-focused environment. The role will support the continued growth of research and innovation across areas such as AI-enabled engineering workflows, adaptive robotic systems, lifecycle engineering, software-defined automation, and intelligent industrial systems.

Appointments will be considered at either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level depending on experience, research profile, leadership trajectory, and funding track record.

About You

You will hold a PhD in Automation, Robotics, Applied AI, Engineering, or a closely related discipline and demonstrate expertise aligned to intelligent automation and robotics research.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of:

robotics and intelligent systems
AI-enabled automation and engineering workflows
adaptive and learning-based robotic systems
vision-based and multi-modal perception systems
digital twins and lifecycle engineering
software-defined or distributed automation architectures
data-driven manufacturing systems
You should demonstrate the ability, or strong potential, to develop internationally recognised research through publications, collaborative projects, funding activity, and engagement with industrial and academic partners.

Candidates applying at Associate Professor level should demonstrate an established research profile and evidence of academic leadership, while Assistant Professor candidates should demonstrate strong potential to develop an independent and impactful research trajectory within a collaborative environment.

We particularly welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary working, industry engagement, and translating research into real-world impact.
