About the Role

Thorner’s Homes is an almshouse charity providing independent living accommodation for women aged 55 and over.

We are seeking a reliable and organised Warden to join our team, supporting the day-to-day operation of our almshouse schemes across Southampton.

This is a housing support and site-based role. It does not include the provision of personal care.

Main Responsibilities

Support residents to maintain independence and wellbeing
Carry out health and safety checks and scheme inspections
Respond to maintenance issues and coordinate contractor access
Maintain accurate records using internal systems
Respond to emergencies and incidents as required
Support resident engagement and activities
Work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures

Working Pattern

The role operates on a rota basis across the following shifts:

8:00am – 4:00pm
9:00am – 5:00pm
10:00am – 6:00pm
12:00pm – 8:00pm

The role also includes participation in an on-call rota (typically 1 week in 4).

During on-call periods, the successful candidate must remain within approximately 15–20 minutes travel time of the schemes and be available to respond to emergencies.

Important

This is a rota-based role within a team of wardens. The successful candidate will be required to work the full range of shifts and participate in the on-call rota. It is not possible to select or fix preferred working patterns.

Essential Requirements

Full UK driving licence
Access to a vehicle for work purposes
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong organisational and communication skills
Ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records
Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations
Understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities
Desirable
Experience in housing, property management, social housing or a similar role
Basic understanding of health and safety responsibilities
