Summary
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Full-time SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join their team in Plymouth. This is a crucial role that will involve providing support and assistance to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive the individualised attention and resources they require to thrive academically and socially.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with our client's teaching staff, specialists, and other support personnel to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. Your primary responsibility will be to support the learning and development of students with special educational needs, helping them overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
- Providing one-to-one or small group support to students with SEND, tailoring your approach to meet their unique needs and learning styles.
- Collaborating with teachers to develop and implement effective lesson plans, strategies, and interventions that cater to the diverse needs of SEND students.
- Assisting students with activities of daily living, such as personal care, mobility, and communication, as required.
- Monitoring and documenting student progress, attendance, and behaviour, and providing regular feedback to teachers and other professionals.
- Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, SEND reviews, and parent-teacher conferences to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
- Encouraging and facilitating student independence, self-advocacy, and social-emotional development.
- Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment for all students.
- Undertaking relevant training and professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting SEND students.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in a SEND setting.
- A relevant qualification in education, child/youth work, or a related field is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure.
- Demonstrable understanding of SEND legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Proficiency in using assistive technologies and adaptive equipment to support SEND students.
- A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of students with special educational needs.
- Willingness to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
