Summary

Your new company

You will be joining a well-established, specialist secondary school in Preston that supports young people aged 11-19 with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The school is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment, where every student is supported to achieve their full potential and develop the skills needed for adult life. The setting caters for students with diverse and complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties, Speech and Language needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.

Your new role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both academically and socially, working closely with teaching staff to deliver a personalised curriculum tailored to individual needs.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with EHCPs
  • Supporting delivery of lessons focused on functional skills, independence and life skills
  • Assisting with behaviour management and promoting positive emotional regulation strategies
  • Encouraging student engagement, confidence and participation in learning
  • Supporting students with communication, social interaction and daily routines
  • Monitoring and reporting on student progress in line with individual learning targets
  • Helping to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEND, ideally within a school or care setting
  • Be patient, empathetic and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Be able to adapt to the individual needs of learners and use initiative
  • Have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
