Summary


The post holder will work as part of the Pathology IT team to maintain and support digital systems within Pathology such as first line support, audit and routine system maintenance.

The Pathology Digital Team supports the implementation and development of digital tools and systems within pathology services. Bringing together a mix of technical, clinical, and operational expertise, the team focuses on improving workflows through quality management, data management, and system integration. Their work helps ensure that pathology departments can operate more efficiently, reliably, and in line with evolving healthcare technologies.

The post holder will play a key role in providing first-line support for digital systems within the Pathology department. Working closely with end-users, the Pathology IT team, and external suppliers, they will investigate, log, and resolve technical issues to ensure the smooth operation of critical information systems. A significant focus of the role will also involve extracting and reporting data from Pathology IT systems to support operational, clinical, and statutory reporting requirements.

• Perform daily maintenance and housekeeping of digital systems (primarily iLab Apex) within Pathology.
• Work directly with system users to investigate issues, accurately define problems and provide first line support for Pathology digital systems.
• Perform data extraction and reporting from digital systems within Pathology.
• Provide first line support for digital system within Pathology
• Correct data errors, perform patient merges and help maintain data integrity across Pathology systems.
• Provide user training and support for common system functions and digital processes within Pathology
• Partake in testing of new solutions and changes to digital system in Pathology, supporting upgrade and implementation projects.
• Install, configure and help maintain PC’s, IT hardware and software within Pathology by working alongside The Health Informatics Service.
• Work under the guidance of more senior Pathology IT team colleagues to prioritise workload and escalate issues appropriately when demand cannot be met. Work is managed not supervised.
• Log incidents and service requests with third-party suppliers, ensuring clear documentation and timely follow-up.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, reporting processes, and data definitions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Help maintain operation of digital systems within Pathology including Apex, ICE, Cerner EPR, Cognos, NPEx, Autocard and Q-Pulse.
• Take part in delivery of Pathology IT training programs.
• Carry out daily system checks and housekeeping tasks to allow the detection of instability or poor performance of critical systems.
• Liaise with third party suppliers for advice, training and troubleshooting queries.
• Take part in implementing new and ongoing IT projects
• Work directly with end users to investigate, clearly define and resolve reported problems, ensuring accurate information is gathered for resolution.
• Escalate unresolved or high-priority issues to senior team member.
• Maintain departmental IT hardware in conjunction with the Trust IT provider (THIS)
• Help maintain interfaces to and from Pathology digital systems.
• Liaise with wards/departments and GP users to answer queries and assist with investigation and resolution of issues.
• Ensure the LIMS database tables such as location and clinician codes are maintained.
• Investigate and resolve problems relating to the LIMS and other digital solutions in Pathology.
• Maintain the Pathology IT Assets Register.
• Help ensure compliance with Information Governance and cyber security ISO 15189 accreditation standards in Pathology.
• Help maintain data quality in Pathology.
• Active participation in Trust and Pathology initiatives such as Electronic Patient Record, Digital Pathology, BloodTrack and the WYAAT Project.
• Work in conjunction with laboratory scientific staff to validate accuracy of data extracts.
• Collaborate with THIS to manage and maintain Pathology IT hardware, ensuring reliable performance and timely replacements
• Act as a point of contact for Pathology IT with other IT providers such as The Health Informatics Service and Dedalus
• Provide first line support for digital system in Pathology
• Log incidents and service requests with third-party suppliers, ensuring clear documentation and follow-up.
• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other documentation.
• Attend relevant user group meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.
• Help support compliance with Information Governance policies, data protection regulations, and Trust-wide IT security protocols.
• Support the testing and implementation of software upgrades, patches, and configuration changes, including supporting delivery of new reporting requirements arising from system upgrades or service changes
• Communicate IT information to users which may seem complicated to non-IT staff.
