Summary


We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Nurse to join our dynamic Cardiac Catheter Laboratory team at Frimley Park Hospital. This full-time role is based within a busy and supportive cardiology service, with two catheter labs undertaking a wide range of procedures including PCI, complex pacing and other interventional cardiac procedures.

You will ideally have some cardiology experience or a keen interest in developing within this specialist area. Following a structured training programme, you will work within the procedure rooms wearing lead protection and develop competencies in scrubbing and circulating for cardiac procedures. Once trained, you will participate in the 24/7 PPCI on-call rota.

The role includes rotation through the Cardiology Day Unit, caring for patients before and after procedures, the Recovery Unit and Complex Echo Unit, some support provided to the cardiology wards when required.

This role is open to newly qualified nurses graduating in September 2026

Undertake operational duties to maintain departmental efficiency, quality standards and patient safety. Deliver care in line with Trust policies, national standards and clinical governance requirements, including participation in audit activities. Support the nursing team and provide leadership within the clinical environment.

Act as a mentor and support the induction, supervision and development of new staff and students. Assist in the management and care of patients undergoing cardiac investigations and procedures, ensuring high standards of patient-centred care. Perform nursing procedures and interventions in accordance with Laboratory and Trust policies.

Scrub and assist medical staff during diagnostic and interventional procedures within the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory. Work flexibly across all areas of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and associated cardiology services. Maintain high standards of aseptic technique during the preparation and delivery of clinical procedures. Participate in the 24/7 PPCI on-call rota following competency-based training.

Communicate effectively with patients and relatives, providing reassurance, support and clear explanations throughout procedures. Undertake safety checks of swabs, instruments and needles in line with local policy alongside a second registered practitioner. Adhere to local policies for patient identification, admission and safe handover following procedures.
