Summary

Tutor of LawRef: 2526/168Hours: 37 hours per week (1.0 fte) Salary: Up to £43,408 per annum* (please see salary guidance attached). Plus generous benefits. These include: • 57 days annual leave per year (including bank holidays and efficiency closures)• Generous Occupational Pension Scheme • Financial support towards teacher training course fees if you do not have a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE*Progression beyond point 12 of the salary scale (£40,407) is subject to Tutors obtaining QTLS. Staff with Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) via the Society for Education and Training (SET) are eligible to receive an enhanced salary of £44,875 - please see attached salary guidance for further details.About the role We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and forward thinking Law tutor to join our experienced and supportive team as we introduce the brand new Pearson T Level in Legal Services for first teaching in September 2026. This is a rare opportunity to shape a flagship qualification from the ground up, supported by a fully equipped moot court room, specialist colleagues, and a college committed to innovation in legal education.As a T Level Legal Services tutor, you will teach across The Core Component where you will guide students through the essential knowledge, concepts and skills that underpin modern legal services. Knowledge and understanding of the following is therefore essential:• The business environment and how legal services support business activity• Careers in the legal professions, regulation, professionalism and ethics• Security, risk, and compliance within legal practice• Fundamentals of law, including legal frameworks, case law, and legal principles• Technology, data, and digital innovation in legal services• Research skills, project management and effective communication• Professional services and the role of legal support staffYou will also teach across the Occupational Specialism of Crime, Criminal Justice and Social Welfare. Here you will support students to develop the specialist skills needed for threshold competence in roles such as paralegal or legal assistant within criminal, social welfare, and justice settings. This includes:• Understanding criminal law, procedure, and the criminal justice system• Supporting casework, client interaction, and evidence handling• Applying legal knowledge to realistic, synoptic project tasks• Working to professional standards and regulatory expectationsAlongside the T Level, you will also teach A Level Law (OCR Specification), helping students build the foundations of legal reasoning, case analysis, and understanding of the English legal system. As part of the delivery and support of A Level Law, knowledge and understanding of the following is also required:• The English legal system• Criminal law (offences, liability, case law)• Tort law (negligence, duty of care, breach, damage)• Legal reasoning and application skillsAbout the personYou will bring both legal and business experience, whether from practice, teaching or academic research, to enrich student learning. You should be able to draw on real-world examples to make legal principles accessible and relevant, and demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and up to date knowledge of the legal landscape. Knowledge of the Pearson T Level Legal Services specification and/or previous experience of teaching the OCR A Level Law specification would be useful but is not essential. Whilst the T Level Legal Services qualification is primarily law based, there is a large focus on business within the specification and therefore this post may also be suitable for an individual with a business background, whether in teaching or in industry. You are professional, reliable, have good interpersonal skills, open and empathetic. You’ll need to be able to manage large classes of teenage learners, from age 16. You will work with a wide range of different college systems, therefore good IT skills would be of benefit, as would a willingness to produce presentations and teaching resources.About the CollegeYork College & University Centre is the largest further education college in the region, offering a comprehensive range of courses from Entry Level to degree level.
