SUPPORTING HANDS NE LTD
Accountable To: Registered Manager
Scope of the Role
The Deputy Care Manager will support the Registered Manager in the effective running of the service, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care is delivered to all service users.
Key responsibilities include planning, monitoring, and evaluating individual care plans, supervising and supporting care staff, and ensuring all care practices meet regulatory and organisational standards.
The post holder will play a key leadership role within the senior team, contributing to staff rotas, service development, audits, reporting, and compliance. They will also deputise for the Registered Manager when required.
A strong focus on safeguarding, promoting independence, and enhancing quality of life for individuals with complex needs is central to this role.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery
Support delivery of high-quality, person-centred care in line with care plans
Contribute to assessment, planning, and review of individual needs
Ensure accurate and timely recording of care provided
Support and promote independence, choice, and wellbeing of service users
Participate in activities, outings, and annual holidays where required
Ensure dignity, respect, and confidentiality at all times
Leadership & Staff Management
Supervise, support, and line manage care/support staff
Conduct staff supervision and annual appraisals
Ensure staff development plans and mandatory training are in place
Support recruitment, induction, and performance management
Contribute to effective and fair staff rota planning
Lead by example and promote best practice across the team
Operational & Quality Management
Support implementation of organisational policies and procedures
Maintain accurate records and operational systems (paper-based and digital)
Carry out audits and contribute to quality assurance processes
Ensure risk assessments are completed and regularly reviewed
Support complaints handling procedures
Assist in producing reports for reviews, audits, and inspections
Ensure compliance with CQC standards and internal policies
Safeguarding & Compliance
Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults
Ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act and DoLS
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and health & safety procedures
Report all concerns appropriately and promptly
Partnership Working & Communication
Liaise effectively with families, carers, health professionals, and external agencies
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Maintain clear, accurate communication and records
Attend and contribute to meetings, reviews, and care planning discussions
Activities & Wellbeing
Support and implement activity programmes tailored to individual needs
Encourage social inclusion, learning, and leisure opportunities
Promote active participation and meaningful daily experiences for service users
Financial & Administrative Duties
Support safe management of service users’ finances in line with policies
Liaise with external agencies regarding benefits and entitlements
Ensure accurate documentation and record keeping at all times
Additional Requirements
Full clean UK driving licence
Access to a car at all times for work purposes
Valid business insurance (essential due to travel requirements for service delivery, community support, and escorting service users)
Person Specification Summary
Essential
Level 3 NVQ/QCF in Health & Social Care (Adults) or equivalent
Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities or complex needs
Experience working within a care or residential setting
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of care plans, safeguarding, MCA, DoLS, and health & safety
Organised, reliable, and able to prioritise workload
Competent in basic IT (Microsoft Word, Outlook)
Commitment to person-centred care and promoting independence
Desirable
Experience in a supervisory or leadership role
Experience in a charity, education, or care organisation
Medication administration training
Working knowledge of CQC standards
Willingness to work towards Level 4 Health & Social Care
Experience delivering staff training or coaching
