Summary
The Hindu Religious and Cultural Society (Leicester) is a Leicester based U.K. registered charity established in 1983 serving the Hindu population of Leicester and Leicestershire including its membership that reflects the diversity of those who originate from the Indian subcontinent with Hindi being the primary common community faith language served and observed in its religious activities. The Mandir (temple) is located in a community neighbourhood not far from Leicester City Centre. It employs a pujari (priest) who undertakes spiritual and religious duties for the Mandir.
The organisation is seeking to appoint a Religious Worker (Non Pastoral) for a fixed 2 year period, whose duties will be to primarily service and maintain the welfare of the Deities (Murti’s) in accordance with accepted tradition and practice, e.g. washing; preparation of bhog (offering of food); conduct religious devotional songs and associated activities; preparation and clothing of Deities, preparation of garlands; supporting preparation for Aarti (prays), etc and those duties that support the religious rituals and practices of the faith including supporting in the preparation of religious festivals and devotional events; and maintain the presentation and upkeep of the scared places in the temple.
The individual must be educated, a practising Hindu with full understanding of the faith, have fluency in Hindi and have undertaken similiter roles in an appropriate setting with knowledge and experience that can be evidenced in being able to conduct their duties. As this is a non-pastoral role , none of the duties outlined involve teaching, preaching or leading a congregation.
