Summary
A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology. This is a full-time permanent post with no on-call commitment, offering an excellent opportunity to gain broad experience in gastroenterology within a supportive and forward-thinking department.
The post holder will be expected to work across all three Trust sites: Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, and St Albans City Hospital.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering comprehensive care to patients within the gastroenterology service. Responsibilities will include:
Managing gastroenterology inpatients, including leading ward rounds, reviewing new admissions, and responding to inpatient referrals across multiple wards.
Supporting the day-to-day running of the gastroenterology ward in collaboration with Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Conducting outpatient clinics under consultant supervision.
Exercising clinical judgement in the management of general medical and gastroenterological conditions.
Delivering evidence-based care and responding effectively to emergency and unforeseen clinical situations.
Liaising closely with Consultants and other specialties to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
Arranging and undertaking follow-up for discharged patients, including virtual clinics and review of investigation results.
Supervising and teaching resident doctors, medical students, and clinical observers, including training in practical procedures such as ascitic taps/drains and lumbar punctures.
Participating in Clinical Governance meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.
