We have an exciting new opportunity to become UCLH’s Undergraduate Medical Education Fellow in Acute Medicine from August 2026. This is an ideal post for doctors training in any medical specialty with a general internal medicine component looking to undertake an out of programme experience, or doctors looking for opportunities before entering higher specialty training.
This is an opportunity for a motivated registrar with full MRCP and a passion for education to shape the learning culture for medical students attached to Acute Medicine at UCLH. The role offers a unique balance of clinical practice and protected time to develop as a medical educator within one of the UK’s most dynamic and academically active acute trusts.
We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician who is organised, collaborative and keen to innovate. Whether you are exploring a longer-term career in education or seeking dedicated time to consolidate leadership and teaching skills, this fellowship provides the platform, autonomy and support to make a meaningful impact on medical student training — while continuing to develop your own clinical and professional practice.
The post holder will direct the training programme for medical students attached to acute medicine. There will undergo training to deliver teaching on medical undergraduate curriculum programmes.
This will be alongside a commitment to clinical work in acute medicine, working at a registrar level in Same Day Emergency Care and the Enhanced Care Unit within the AMU. The post is divided into a roughly 50/50 split between educational work and clinical work.
The post holder will support the local Undergraduate Medical Education lead to address important training issues, enhance medical student experiences and support department-wide education.

The Acute Medicine Undergraduate Medical Education Fellowwill undertake a dual role combining clinical service in Acute Medicine with dedicated time for medical education. Approximately half of the post will be focused on registrar-level clinical duties within Acute Medicine, with the remaining time protected for the development and delivery of educational activity.
Main responsibilities include:
• •Administration, delivery and evaluation of high-quality Acute Medicine teaching to students
• •Completion of students’ Supervised Learning Events assessments
• •Troubleshooting of areas for improvement as identified in student feedback
• •Facilitation of mock examination stations for students
• •Participation in student examinations and OSCEs across all year groups and sites
• •Mentorship and guidance for students expressing keenness to pursue Acute Medicine
• •Networking in order to exchange and share ideas and practice among peers
• •Setting up of new student initiatives as demand and capacity
• •Ensuring sustainability of any changes beyond the duration of this post
• •Clinical duties, depending on experience level of postholder at Medical SpR Level
This post allows application for an honorary contract with UCL Medical School, and as such presents opportunities for further experience in assessment, feedback, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and creating specific learning resources for medical students.
The postholder will be invited to participate in a UCL ‘Introduction of Clinical Teaching’ (formerly ‘Training to Teach’) course, and will be encouraged to study for a postgraduate certification in Medical Education.
The postholder will be supported to build their teaching portfolio to assist in gaining accreditation through the Higher Education Academy prior to completing their post.
There will be a wealth of other opportunities for personal and educational development during this post, as well as explore research in medical education, and the candidate will be encouraged and supported to pursue their interests in this regard.
