Summary

The Ward Manager is the senior clinical leader for their ward, accountable for the delivery of safe, highquality, personcentred care and for providing professional and operational leadership to the nursing team. The post holder will act as an expert practitioner, role model and visible leader, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes, staff experience and service performance. The role includes responsibility for clinical standards, workforce leadership, governance, education and training, budgetary control and service development, ensuring care is delivered in line with organisational values, regulatory requirements and evidencebased practice. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership and Patient Care Lead, coordinate and supervise nursing care, ensuring all patients receive holistic, individualised care based on assessed needs and agreed care plans. Act as a clinical expert and resource within the ward, providing specialist advice to colleagues and liaising with the wider multidisciplinary team and external agencies. Drive implementation of evidencebased practice, innovations and clinical improvements within the ward. Monitor and review clinical standards, nursing indicators and patient outcomes, taking action to address areas for improvement. Promote dignity, respect and personcentred care at all times. Leadership, Education and Workforce Development Lead, motivate and develop the ward team, creating a positive learning environment and a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement. Ensure effective appraisal, supervision and performance development processes are in place for all staff. Support recruitment, induction, retention and deployment of staff, ensuring safe staffing levels and appropriate skill mix. Identify training and development needs and contribute to annual training plans. Act as mentor and educator for staff, students and healthcare assistants, ensuring mandatory and rolespecific training compliance. Quality, Governance and Risk Promote and ensure adherence to clinical governance frameworks, hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Identify and manage clinical and nonclinical risks, ensuring timely reporting, investigation and learning from incidents. Support audit activity and quality improvement initiatives and ensure sustained compliance with agreed standards. Promote a strong culture of safety, openness and learning. Operational and Financial Management Manage the daytoday operational running of the ward, ensuring effective use of beds, timely admissions and discharges and smooth patient flow. Take delegated responsibility for budgetary control, including resource management, stock ordering and authorisation of timesheets and expenses. Contribute to workforce planning, establishment reviews and new ways of working that support service efficiency and improvement. Maintain a safe, clean and wellorganised clinical environment. Communication and Collaboration Act as a visible and accessible leader for patients, relatives and staff, addressing concerns promptly and professionally. Work collaboratively with Consultants, allied health professionals and senior leaders to enhance the patient journey and service delivery. Establish and maintain effective links with external services including community and social care providers. Infection Prevention, Safeguarding and Professional Responsibilities Ensure infection prevention and control practices are embedded within daily practice and monitored effectively. Act in accordance with safeguarding policies, escalating concerns appropriately and contributing to safeguarding processes. Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection and information governance requirements. Uphold health and safety standards and organisational policies at all times.
