Summary
Job Overview Western Road Surgery is looking for a General Practitioner to join the Practices clinical team. As part of the team, you will be helping the surgery deal with the demand of the population along with the six partners. The role ranges from seeing patients, interpreting pathology and prescribing appropriately. We are a teaching practice so there will be an opportunity for you to train and teach the registrars and trainee medical students. The surgery has 13,000 patients so is very fast paced and we use the triaging tool AccuRX to effectively book our appointments. Main Responsibilities Clinical Care: GPs assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions for patients of all ages. They perform physical examinations, take medical histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and provide appropriate treatments or referrals to specialists when necessary. They also manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and heart disease, adjusting treatment plans and educating patients on self-care. Preventive Care and Health Education: GPs provide routine check-ups, immunizations, screenings, and lifestyle guidance, including diet, exercise, and smoking cessation, to prevent health problems and promote wellness. They educate patients on managing chronic conditions and maintaining overall health. Administrative Duties: GPs maintain accurate patient records, document care and education provided, issue prescriptions, and manage referrals. They may also handle billing, insurance claims, and compliance with healthcare regulations. Collaboration and Teamwork: GPs work closely with nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care. They participate in practice audits, accreditation activities, and after-hours or on-call services as needed. Professional Development: GPs are expected to maintain current medical knowledge through continuing education, adhere to professional standards and legislation, maintain medical indemnity insurance, and hold current resuscitation certification.
