Summary
These fixed-term locum consultant posts in anaesthesia based at The Royal London Hospital have arisen due to temporary staff redeployment.
The posts are to start in August 2026 and November 2026, and will be for a period of 6 months. The term may be extended by mutual agreement, to fulfil ongoing service needs if appropriate.
The successful candidates may be asked to cover surgical lists at Barts or Mile End Hospitals if required. The post holders will be employees of Bart’s Health and there may be future opportunities or requirements to work at any of the other hospitals in the Barts Health group.
Applicants should have the general knowledge, skills and training appropriate to the role of Consultant in Anaesthesia.
This job will principally incorporate general duties in anaesthesia. The department would expect consultants to work flexibly for the job planned clinical commitment. The department will try to help consultants develop and maintain specific areas of their clinical expertise where possible.
The contract will be for 10 programmed activities (PAs) as described in the 2003 consultant contract. These activities will be split between direct clinical care (DCC) and supporting professional activities (SPA). The SPA allocation will be 1.5 for revalidation purposes.
The job plan below is an example of a proposed job plan for this post but may be subject to change after agreement with the post holder and clinical lead.
