Summary
Adult Critical Care consists of five units encompassing general, neurosurgical and cardiac services. Based across two sites, Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital, each unit provides HDU and ICU care for patients from Leeds and across the West Yorkshire region. In addition to this, Adult Critical Care also has a Critical Care Outreach Team to support escalation of deteriorating patents from the wards to Critical Care and a Critical Care Rehabilitation Team to support the transition of care for our patients once they are discharged to the ward and enable Rehab. The clinical service unit is a complex and fast paced environment, so the post holder must be adaptive to change and able to make rapid balanced decisions to enable best care for patients and support for staff. The post-holder will: Provide strong leadership to a well-established and highly performing team Provide Senior line management for the business and administrative staff in the CSU including one direct line report. Act as the CSU lead to deliver the performance and financial objectives for the CSU Provide leadership in delivering the CSU’s priority areas, such as clinical service development, contracting, business cases and Leeds Improvement Method value streams Support the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director in deciding the transformation plan, strategic direction and management priorities for the CSU Champion patient-centered care ensuring safety; quality and patient experience are embedded in everything we do You will be an experienced operational manager with masters level qualifications and extensive experience in a demanding senior management role within a complex organisation. You will have a proven track record of leading change and delivering improvements, preferably across both unplanned and planned services. You should have a detailed working knowledge of NHS practices and procedures. We are looking for a senior manager with experience in managing and leading administrative and clinical teams across a diverse range of services. You should have the ambition and drive to develop the team to deliver new and innovative ways of working. Cardiorespiratory CSU has the aim of being demonstrably the best CSU for research, innovation and partnership working in the country - you need to play your part in achieving this ambition. What you will bring to the role The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the skills, experience and qualifications below and those in the attached job description. Essential to the role are; Qualifications Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification. Continuing professional development. Desirable qualifications - Management qualification or post graduate diploma. Masters degree. Experience Experience of successful operational management at a middle/senior management level. Budgetary management. Demonstrates ability to develop and utilise effective professional networks. Operational and business planning and implementation and options appraisal. Management of staff from a range of professional and occupational backgrounds. Desirable experience - Preparing strategic plans. NHS management experience. Demonstrates evidence of innovation in the provision of services. Training Willing to undertake training and development as identified through the Personal Development Planning process. Special Knowledge Knowledge of workforce planning principles and practice. Sound understanding of the NHS plan and modernisation agenda. Comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of financial and commissioning frameworks. Understanding of PBR and its impact. Capacity planning, managing waiting lists and developing business cases. Skills & Behaviours Excellent change management skills including service reconfiguration. Ability to lead service redesign projects. Proven track record in the development and delivery of business plans and business development cases. Ability to anticipate problems, appraise risks and make effective decisions. Analytical skills, literacy and numeracy. Ability to analyse highly complex data to formulate reports. Able to communicate in a highly complex service relating information to senior managers and external customers. Strong negotiation and influencing skills, tact and diplomacy. Highly credible with clinical staff including senior medical staff. Ability to lead highly complex multidisciplinary teams based on different sites across the organisation. Manage clinical and business risks developing action plans to improve performance. Effective team leader and team player with the ability to work flexibly in a diverse and highly demanding organisation. Fair, honest and consistent in approach, working well under pressure of time and resources. Self-management, demonstrating resilience.
