Summary

As the Eating Disorders Service Dietetic Lead, you will take a strategic and operational role in shaping and delivering specialist dietetic services. Clinical Leadership and Patient Care You will be professionally accountable for your own clinical practice, delivering highly specialist dietetic assessment and interventions for adults with complex eating disorders. This includes analysing complex clinical presentations, developing evidence-based treatment plans, and managing associated risks. You will establish and maintain high standards of care across the service, supporting junior staff to deliver safe, effective interventions. You will also contribute to the development of structured care programmes and ensure local practice reflects national guidelines and the evolving evidence base. Service Development and Partnership Working Working closely with the Operational Service Manager and Clinical Lead, you will contribute to the design and implementation of integrated care pathways for eating disorder patients across Somerset. You will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including GPs, mental health teams, acute services, community providers and voluntary organisations to ensure coordinated, person-centred care. You will act as a key point of contact for dietetic expertise within the service and represent the organisation in local and regional networks. Leadership and Management You will provide line management, supervision and appraisal for dietetic staff, supporting their professional development and ensuring high performance within the team. Responsibilities include workload planning, prioritisation and staff support, alongside mentoring and contributing to training and development programmes. Quality, Audit and Research You will lead on audit and evaluation of the dietetic service, contributing to service improvement and innovation. You will participate in research and development activities and ensure that your own practice and that of the team is informed by current evidence and best practice. Communication and Collaboration The role requires excellent communication skills to engage with patients, carers, colleagues and external partners. You will frequently manage sensitive and complex situations, providing clear, compassionate and professional guidance. Professional and Organisational Responsibilities You will maintain accurate clinical records, contribute to data collection and reporting, and ensure compliance with Trust policies, professional standards, and information governance requirements. You will also actively engage in continuing professional development and contribute to training within the service.
