Assistant Management Accounts Officer
Department: Finance
Salary: £25,775 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent | Full time 37 hours per week

Reference: REC2416 | Closing Date: Sunday, 17th May 2026

The Opportunity

Based in our friendly Finance team, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Management Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, and Head of Finance by helping to deliver accurate and timely financial information to the College. Your work will support key areas like budgeting, forecasting, monitoring capital spend and preparing management account schedules.

You will be responsible for preparing and posting monthly journals, including those for payroll and grant funding. You will also handle monthly accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and provisions to help keep our financial reporting accurate and up to date. You will also put together management account schedules that feed into reports for the College Leadership Team and the Board, helping to guide important decisions.

A big part of your role will be ensuring all transactions are correctly coded within the Balance Sheet. You’ll carry out monthly reconciliations, and if anything doesn’t add up, it’ll be down to you to investigate and resolve as quickly as possible to keep everything running smoothly.

You will also assist in looking after the fixed asset register, such as processing new additions to depreciation and disposals.

You will also work closely with budget holders across the College, acting as a go-to person for financial support. This means sharing clear, timely financial information, helping them manage their budgets, and answering any questions about spending. You’ll explain variances and help resolve any issues, making sure everyone has the information they need to make good financial decisions.

About You

You will be detail-oriented, proactive, and confident working with financial data. You should have a strong foundation in accounting principles and be comfortable preparing journals, reconciliations, and financial reports. Accuracy and timeliness are essential, as your work will directly support key financial decisions at the College.

You’ll need to be highly organised and capable of managing multiple tasks to meet monthly deadlines. A good understanding of Balance Sheet coding and financial statement structures will also be important. Experience with accounting software and strong Excel skills will also be highly beneficial.

In addition to technical skills, you should be a good communicator who can explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues. You will be working closely with budget holders, so the ability to build positive working relationships and provide helpful, solution-focused support is key.

Ideally, you’ll be studying towards a recognised accounting qualification (such as AAT), or have equivalent experience in a similar role. A willingness to learn and develop within the finance team will help you succeed in this position.

Below is a list of some of the key skills, qualifications and experience we are seeking for this exciting opportunity.

Required

• Four GCSEs at grades A–C (including English and Maths) or equivalent (e.g. NVQ Level 2).
• AAT Level 2 (or equivalent) completed and working towards Level 3.
• Minimum of one year’s experience in a finance or accounting office.

Closing date for applications is Sunday, 17th May 2026. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early depending on the level of interest.
