Summary

Can you deliver evidence-based policy advice while managing competing priorities and engaging stakeholders effectively?

Do you thrive adapting quickly, leading projects, and producing high-quality outputs under pressure?

If so, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Traffic and Technology Division sits at the forefront of shaping how people experience England’s roads every day. We deliver fast-paced, high-profile policy and digital services that directly influence the safety, efficiency and accessibility of the transport network. Our remit spans street signs, street works and parking policy-areas that attract significant ministerial attention and public interest. Joining this team means working in a dynamic environment where your decisions help solve real problems for road users. From leading on one of the largest regulatory reviews that the Department will be undertaking, focussing on traffic signs and directions, as well as contributing to the publication of the revised Manual for Streets, the work you lead will have tangible, meaningful impact on people’s lives across the country.

In this role you will shape and deliver policy in the Division, working closely with policy colleagues in DfT and across Government, analysts, Ministers and Private Offices, and external partners in the transport sector. You will provide clear, timely advice and high-quality briefings for Ministers and senior officials, and support the development and implementation of traffic legislation and standards.

Joining our department comes with many benefits, including:

  • Employer pension contribution of 28.97% of your salary. Read more about Civil Service Pensions here
  • 25 days annual leave, increasing by 1 day each year of service (up to a maximum of 30 days annual leave), plus 8 bank holidays a privilege day for the King’s birthday
  • Flexible working options where we encourage a great work-life balance.

  • Lead policy development to support the implementation and update of traffic management regulation and policy.
  • Plan and lead stakeholder engagement, building and maintaining effective working relationships with partners across DfT, wider Government and the traffic sector.
  • Lead on team planning and project management, ensuring products are delivered on time, to a high standard.
  • Adapt to changing business needs by reprioritising at pace and taking on new responsibilities where required.
