Summary
The Band 4 Painter & Decorator is a skilled member of the HHCS Estates & Facilities Team, responsible for delivering a comprehensive painting and decorating service across the Trust’s healthcare estate. The post-holder will undertake planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and lifecycle works to ensure that clinical and non-clinical environments are safe, compliant, functional, and presented to a high professional standard that supports patient care and staff wellbeing.
Working with a high degree of autonomy and technical competence, the post-holder will carry out a full range of painting and decorating activities, including surface preparation, minor fabric and plaster repairs, application of specialist healthcare coatings, and working at height using approved access equipment. Work will be delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and agreed quality standards, with minimal supervision and with due regard to operational priorities.
As a skilled tradesperson, the Band 4 Painter & Decorator will also contribute to the wider objectives of the service by sharing expertise, supporting development of apprentices and trainees, and promoting high standards of workmanship, professionalism and customer-focused service delivery across the Trust.

• Standard Trade Tasks:Carry out internal and external painting and decorating to a high craft standard.
• Surface Preparation:Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling, patch plastering, and caulking.
• Coatings Application:Apply various coatings including emulsion, oil-based, acrylic, varnish, primers, and sealers.
• Wallcoverings:Hang standard and wide-width wallcoverings.
• Fabric Maintenance:Undertake minor fabric repairs such as tile and grout touch-ups or applying sealant.
• Technical Competence:Maintain competent use of hand and power tools.
• Condition Assessment:Perform basic defect recognition and surface condition assessments.
• Equipment Use:Ensure the safe use of access equipment.
• Operational Flexibility:Work across various sites and participate in occasional out-of-hours or shift work as required.
• Professional Development:Complete mandatory training and maintain ongoing competence.
