Summary

Demonstrates maintenance and continuous professional development of professional knowledge skills and competencies in line with own professional regulatory body requirements (e.g. NMC/HCPC). Involvement in the delivery of patient care in the context of training, education, and competency assessment of others. Drawing on evidence base, influence how care is provided by identifying priority areas in clinical, professional, and operational practice. Support, advise and role-model how clinical competence can be achieved through direct patient contact and simulated patient environments. To act as a role model for clinical staff which addresses patient needs along with the needs of the learner and ensure the delivery of safe patient care. Keeps accurate, contemporaneous records and written reports as required. Reports and proactively supports training and development issues arising from clinical and non-clinical incidents. Participates / facilitates meetings in response to the clinical development needs of staff. Works collaboratively with clinical professional colleagues and agencies to ensure effective communication in order that professional practice development needs for staff are identified. Manages educational risk and maintains practice education service delivery through effective communication and liaison with Service Managers, staff, and professional colleagues. Engages constructively with clinicians and students to support, develop, and enhance quality standards of clinical practice in the work environment. Provides clinical leadership, development and advice to clinical staff, patients and carers based on current evidence-based knowledge. Maintains up to date clinical skills and knowledge and maintains awareness of professional issues through the appraisal of research and evidence actively seeking out new sources. Demonstrates personal accountability in their everyday practice and an understanding of their responsibility for staff to which they delegate actions. Supports the improvement of patient care and safety by actively promoting, translating, and embedding evidence-based guidance into clinical education and everyday practice. Proactively manages risk to vulnerable persons through the development of activities that support staff to deliver care that is evidence informed, safe and effective. Participates / facilitates meetings in response to the development needs of staff. Works collaboratively with clinical professional colleagues and agencies to ensure effective communication in order that needs of the workforce are identified. Manages risk and maintains service delivery through effective communication and liaison with Service Managers, locality Practice Facilitators and Professional colleagues. Engages constructively with clinicians and students to support, develop and enhance quality standards of clinical practice in the work environment. Provides clinical leadership and advice to clinical staff, patients and carers based on current evidence informed knowledge. Demonstrates the ability to make critical judgements in relation to clinical decision making, including the identification and support of individuals where practice concerns have been raised. Keeps clinical knowledge up to date for own profession and maintains awareness of professional issues across all AHP professions, supporting the AHP Professional Leads through the appraisal of research and evidence actively seeking out new sources. Demonstrate personal accountability in their everyday practice and an understanding of their responsibility for staff to which they delegate actions through education. Supports the improvement of patient care and patient safety by ensuring learners clinical competence is being monitored and reported to necessary assurance groups, escalating issues as required. Line management as required of colleagues within the wider Clinical Education and Development Team.
