Summary

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is building a modern, scalable grants platform to transform how we deliver billions of pounds of funding to UK businesses.

We have already delivered a minimum viable product (MVP) and are now entering an exciting new phase – expanding the platform, onboarding new schemes and shaping how our digital services support future grant making initiatives.

This is a rare opportunity to own and evolve a live digital product at scale, influencing how government delivers funding, improves user experience, and uses data to drive decisions.

You will lead a critical part of our transformation programme, acting as the digital lead for our grant's platform, responsible for both scaling what we’ve built and shaping what comes next.

You will:

  • Own and develop the grants platform roadmap, moving from MVP to a fully scalable, multi-scheme service.
  • Lead the expansion of the system, onboarding new grant schemes, developing integrations with other systems, and ensuring the service meets diverse user and policy needs.
  • Shape how digital supports new initiatives, working with teams to design services from the outset – not retrofit systems later.
  • Act as a bridge between delivery, policy and technical teams, translating complex needs into practical digital solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement, using user feedback, data and insight to iterate and enhance the service.
  • Champion user-centred design, ensuring the system works for operational teams, applicants, and senior stakeholders.
  • Oversee data and MI strategy, ensuing high-quality, actionable insight supports decision-making and transparency.
  • Lead a small, high-performing team, setting direction, building capability and creating a strong delivery culture.

Why is this role different

  • You’re not inheriting a legacy system – you’re shaping a growing live service
  • You’ll influence future policy design, not just implement it
  • You’ll work across digital, data, policy and operations
  • You’ll have visibility and impact across a £bn+ grant portfolio.
