Summary
The Parish of Bridport is a busy and welcoming Church of England parish serving communities across the Bridport area. We are looking for an organised and capable person to take on this newly created combined role, supporting the effective administration of the Parish and its Parochial Church Council (PCC).
This is a varied and interesting role for someone who enjoys working with people, keeping things running smoothly and engaging with the life of the Church. You will work closely with the Rector, the Parish Administrator and PCC members, and will play a central part in the governance and communications of the Parish.
The Role
The role has three main strands:
PCC Secretary — managing the communications and record-keeping of the PCC, including preparing agendas and minutes, organising and attending meetings and ensuring compliance with Church governance requirements.
Electoral Roll Officer — maintaining the Parish Electoral Roll accurately and in accordance with the Church Representation Rules.
Administrative Assistant — providing front-line administrative support on Friday mornings, helping with Parish communications, and covering the Parish Administrator as needed.
What We Are Looking For
You will need to demonstrate:
Proven administration skills and experience of organising meetings
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines
Confidence with Microsoft Office and general computer use
Ability to handle a range of tasks and prioritise effectively
The ability to read and implement regulatory requirements
A warm, approachable manner and the ability to deal tactfully with a wide range of people
An understanding of, and sympathy with, the aims of the Church of England
A secretarial or administration qualification, knowledge of Church of England structures, familiarity with social media and website management are desirable but not essential.
Working Arrangements
This role is offered on the following basis:
£13.50 per hour, 6 hours per week (with some potential for more hours by negotiation)
Fixed initial period of 6 months, likely to be extended subject to funding
Friday mornings 9am–1pm in the Parish office, plus home working
Monthly PCC meetings on weekday evenings (usually around 3 hours), except August and December
Occasional Standing Committee meetings, often held online
The Annual Parochial Church Meeting, held on a Sunday morning in May
The role holder will be a co-opted or elected member of the PCC and will be required to sign a fit and proper persons declaration, undergo an enhanced DBS check and undertake applicable safeguarding training.
