Summary
Job Title Cardiac Nurse Job Location Peninsula Heart Clinic, Plymouth. UK Hours of working Full Time/Part Time JOB SUMMARY To provide nursing care across all areas of the Cardiac Care Unit, including Cath Lab, Day / Night Ward. REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates programmes of care. Records vital signs and report any deterioration of clinical condition to senior nurse. Be able to recognise life threatening arrhythmias and summon help. Be able to perform and interpret ECGs. Able to perform venepuncture and cannulation. ILS trained. Scrub for patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation, pacemaker implantation and PCI. Teach and supervise junior staff nurses and unqualified staff. Be able to help prepare & escort patients under supervision if needed e.g. during transfer to NHS hospital for urgent/ongoing/emergency care. Prepare the lab for clinical procedures. Maintains absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and also inter-personal issues with colleagues. Interpret the significance of the patients clinical observations and records, making decisions and planning in areas affecting patient care; report promptly to medical or appropriate staff any matters, which fall outside his/her responsibility. Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Moving and Handling policy. Maintain the privacy and dignity of patients and staff at all times. To deliver a high-quality cardiology service to our patients at all times. To share professionalism and clinical expertise with all members of the multi -disciplinary team. Ensure the provision of a high standard of care to all service users. To work within the framework of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. To act as a role model for junior staff. To maintain own professional practice and have knowledge of new developments and concepts including the Knowledge & Skills framework. To be aware of relevant nursing research and promote and participate in research initiatives. Ensure adherence to policies, guidelines and directives at all times. To be guided by NMC.HCPC directives e.g. Administration of Medicines, Exercising Accountability, Scope of Professional Practice, Guidelines for Record Keeping. Complete all patient documentation accurately and in a timely manner. To ensure own training needs are met and maintain a development structure that will foster best practice. Attend any specific clinical training that ensures clinical competency is maintained. Complete reports and records as required by managers e.g. incidents/accidents. Maintain effective communication with all service users and the multidisciplinary team. Ensure Clinical Governance standards are met with partnership of unit manager/s.
