Royal Preston Hospital is a regional Head and Neck Cancer Centre providing specialist multidisciplinary care for patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The post offers an opportunity to join an established and dynamic multidisciplinary Head and Neck team. As we review our service model for future demands, we hope to be able to create a substantive role.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a special interest in Head and Neck Oncology and will work as part of a four-consultant team delivering Head and Neck Cancer services.

The postholder will provide specialist Head & Neck Oncology and general OMFS services and will work within a multidisciplinary Head & Neck cancer team, providing consultant-led care including outpatient clinics, elective and cancer surgery, inpatient care and participation in the Head & Neck MDT. The role also contributes to the wider OMFS service including dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma and general oral surgery. This is a 10 Programmed Activity Locum Consultant role, including direct clinical care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities for appraisal, revalidation, governance, teaching, audit and service development.

The post holder will be expected to -
• Support the provision of an Oral & Maxillofacial service to LTHTR
• Work as a member of the Head & Neck Oncology team
• Participate in the on-call rota for Oral & Maxillofacial represented by a 1:5 commitment share with colleagues.
• Take an active role in the teaching/training of junior staff including Speciality Trainees & JCF’s
• Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients.
• Develop close links with General Practitioners and dentists operating within this area.
• Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the service to reflect perceived priorities and within specified resources.
• Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
