1. WHY THE POST EXISTS
Lead Chesterfield’s place story in this pivotal leadership role at a defining moment for Chesterfield.
We are seeking a confident, outward-looking leader to guide the Destination Chesterfield Partnership through the next stage of its evolution — shaping and championing Chesterfield’s place story at a time of significant opportunity created by Local Government Reorganisation and the establishment of the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).
Building on the strong foundations set out through the Destination Chesterfield strategy and campaigns, the role will drive ambitious place marketing, business engagement and inward investment to position Chesterfield as a contemporary destination to invest, work, live and visit.
You’ll own delivery of the Destination Chesterfield strategy, setting direction with the Partnership Board, managing financial and other performance measures, and ensuring the Chesterfield place brand is brought to life consistently through strong partnership working.
Working with senior public and private sector leaders, you’ll lead the Destination Chesterfield team to deliver standout marketing campaigns, grow and energise the Chesterfield Champions network, spotlight investment and regeneration opportunities, and deepen engagement across the business community.
In this role, you will also collaborate with partners to promote Chesterfield as a place to invest, ensuring enquiries are managed effectively to secure investment.
Reporting to the Partnership Board, you’ll support and facilitate Board, forum and advisory group meetings and provide clear, confident reporting on progress and impact. In addition, you’ll work closely with Chesterfield Borough Council to oversee relevant external funding requirements and maintain compliance.
2. THE KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
– Lead the Destination Chesterfield Partnership (DCP), developing and delivering a strategic and sustainable approach to place promotion, stakeholder engagement and inward investment.
– Deliver the Destination Chesterfield strategy, achieving agreed budgets and KPIs set by the Partnership Board.
– Build and maintain senior-level relationships with key partners across the public and private sectors to secure buy-in and advocacy for Chesterfield.
– Manage and champion the strategic implementation of the Chesterfield place brand, ensuring appropriate use of the brand toolkit.
– Lead and develop the Destination Chesterfield team, including management of the Marketing & Partnerships Manager.
– Oversee delivery of marketing campaigns, grow and retain the Chesterfield Champions network, and promote investment and regeneration opportunities.
– Ensure effective evaluation, analysis and reporting of activity and outcomes to the Partnership Board.
– Facilitate Board and advisory group meetings, producing strategic documents and presenting progress updates.
– Work with Chesterfield Borough Council and East Midlands Combined County Authority to monitor external funding, ensuring compliance and supporting audits.
3. APPLICANTS WILL POSSESS
– Knowledge of inward investment, place marketing partnerships/organisations and best practice.
– Understanding of public sector policy affecting place shaping, including physical, economic and social regeneration.
– Proven experience of facilitating Board-level activity, including reporting, briefings and governance support.
– Strong track record in strategic marketing and communications planning and delivery.
– Experience of cross-sector partnership working and influencing senior stakeholders.
– Leadership experience, including developing and motivating a team.
– Excellent communication and presentation skills, with credibility at senior level.
– Project and budget management capability, including understanding of funding regimes and compliance requirements.
– Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to travel and work flexibly.
