About us
The Vale of Glamorgan is welcoming applications within its Flying Start Programme. Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded programme and is available in targeted areas supporting all families to give 0-3-year olds a Flying Start in life. The programme aims to provide intensive support services for children and their families.

The focus of the programme is on promoting language, cognitive, social and emotional skills, physical development and the early identification of high needs. This is achieved through the delivery of health support and guidance, parenting groups and support and free part time childcare.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 4, SCP 6- 7, £25,989 – £26,403 Pro Rata £13.47 - £13.69 Per Hour

Hours of Work: 35 hrs per week

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, Morning sessions only, term time (39 weeks)

Main Place of Work: Barry

Temporary Reason: In line with funding until March 2028

Description:

The post holder will provide high quality childcare for 2 to 3 year olds in the Flying Start areas of Barry.

Bring play and learning to life by planning and delivering exciting, age‑appropriate activities that support language development, social and emotional growth, and physical skills.
Support children through their daily routines, including snack times, outdoor play, creative activities and personal care, always ensuring their safety, wellbeing and happiness.
Observe and record children’s progress, contributing valuable insights to individual development plans and helping each child reach important early milestones.
Build positive partnerships with parents and carers, sharing updates and celebrating each child’s achievements while encouraging family involvement in their learning journey.
Maintain a welcoming, organised and hygienic environment, ensuring that high standards of health, safety and wellbeing are consistently upheld.
Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team, taking part in meetings, training sessions and reflective practice to continue developing your skills and confidence.
This role is perfect for someone who brings energy, creativity and compassion to their work—and who is excited to help children discover the world through play, exploration and meaningful relationships.
About you
You will need:

A recognised Level 3 qualification in Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development (including the working with babies module), or an equivalent qualification listed on the Social Care Wales framework.
Practical experience working with babies and young children, as well as supporting their families.
A solid understanding of child development, recognising how play, relationships and routines shape early learning.
Good general education and the ability to apply this confidently within the childcare setting.
Strong organisational skills, with experience planning, organising and delivering high‑quality play activities tailored to young children’s needs and interests.
The ability to observe, record and maintain accurate documentation relating to children’s care, progress and development.
Motivation, enthusiasm and a proactive attitude, with a clear understanding of the responsibilities involved in an early years role.
A friendly, approachable and professional manner, with the confidence to communicate effectively with children, parents, colleagues and a range of multi‑agency professionals.
The ability to travel across the Vale of Glamorgan, as the role may involve supporting more than one Flying Start setting.
