Summary
Role Overview
Care Assistant provides high-quality, person-centred care to residents, supporting their physical, emotional, and social needs. The role involves assisting individuals with daily living activities while promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care
Assist residents with washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
Support with mobility, including use of hoists and mobility aids
Help residents maintain independence wherever possible
Health & Wellbeing
Monitor residents’ physical and emotional condition
Report any concerns or changes to senior staff or nurses
Support residents with eating and drinking, including those with specific dietary needs
Emotional & Social Support
Build positive relationships with residents and their families
Engage residents in activities and social interaction
Provide reassurance and companionship (yes, just being there actually matters)
Medication Support
Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records
Record daily observations and report incidents appropriately
Safeguarding & Safety
Follow safeguarding procedures to protect vulnerable adults
Adhere to health & safety, infection control, and moving & handling policies
Skills & Qualities
Compassionate and patient
Good communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Reliable and punctual
Able to remain calm under pressure
Experience & Qualifications
Previous care experience desirable but not always essential
Willingness to complete training (Care Certificate, moving & handling, etc.)
Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Shift work including nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Physically and emotionally demanding role
Requires flexibility and resilience
