Hours:
4 hours per week Mon-Sun (term-time)
Additional 4 hours per week (school holidays)
Job Purpose
A calm & confident PA is required to provide opportunities of play and learning for my 17 year old son who has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome and Autism with associated learning delays. His speech is delayed so he communicates with a mixture of Makaton signs, visual resources, and speech.
The job would give him opportunities to enjoy his favourite activities both in and away from the home.
Main Duties:
Communicate and support his time, activities and communication
Accompany him in the local area and his favourite places
Interact with him using suitable means and methods, such as play and reading, to make him happy and comfortable
Essentials
Calm and confident demeanour
Resilience; managing anxiety and some challenging behaviours
Receive training; including Makaton, Down Syndrome and Autism
Show initiative and flexibility
Be sensitive to his needs and feelings
Communicate well with family and provide feedback to parents
Attend work punctually and consistently
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Experience or desire working with children with additional needs
Skills
• To be able to work unsupervised
• Good communication and listening skills
• Show initiative
• To be able to build self-esteem while ensuring a safe and warm atmosphere/ambiance
Motivation
• To enjoy working with young people.
Other
To hold a current and satisfactory enhanced DBS check or be willing to complete one. Ideally be able to drive and own your own vehicle.
