Your Role

This is a great opportunity to be part of a friendly hard-working team. As a Senior Engineer in our Feasibility and Client Team you will develop and oversee delivery of a wide range of projects including sustainable travel schemes and main road projects. Our current schemes range from several major projects such as CRSTS packages to develop an A6 Bus Radials Programme along with several schemes around Town Centre West, as well as being awarded DfT funding to develop and deliver a package of improvements to the A34 corridor as part of their Major Route Networks programme, to a number of smaller projects such as walking and cycling access improvement schemes which include traffic calming schemes, 20mph speed limits, footpath upgrades, cycling schemes, junction improvements and developing new pedestrian crossings. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver these projects. Every project is different and includes unique challenges that will enable you to develop key engineering skills.

Key tasks:

  • Lead, manage and prepare design plans for a range of major and complex highways and transportation schemes of various types and sizes.
  • Progress feasibility studies and feasibility design for schemes from initial concept to business case submission.
  • Request and analyse surveys, undertake site investigations, complete risk assessments and compile pre-construction information.
  • Produce public consultation materials and attend public consultation events.
  • Produce Committee and Cabinet Member reports with supporting documentation.
  • Ensure design and construction work proceeds in accordance with the approved scheme and in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Ensure delivery of temporary, experimental and permanent traffic regulation orders whether by commissioning them or undertaking the necessary work.
  • Supervise junior staff to oversee delivery of site surveys, research, analysis and interpretation of data and preparation of drawings / consultation material.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Have technical ability to design and construct safe and sustainable projects using knowledge of relevant standards and ideally ability in AutoCAD.
  • Have knowledge and experience of working in a Highway or Transport Planning environment.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills with varied audiences, including internal and external stakeholders such as Councillors, the public, consultants, contractors and private developers.
  • Can work in compliance with the Council’s policies and procedures and meet the councils Corporate Objectives.
  • Can work collaboratively and within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Have experience of or want to learn supervision responsibilities including possible line management of junior staff.
