Temporary post of HLTA: Food Technology | Inspire. Empower. Transform.
Make a Difference Where It Matters Most
Are you ready to transform lives through education? At Cloughside College, we believe every young person deserves access to high-quality learning, no matter what their circumstances. As our Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will join a compassionate and innovative team dedicated to supporting students facing medical and social barriers to education.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to help ensure continuity of learning and support reintegration into school. You will deliver a blend of face-to-face and online lessons, working closely with leadership to provide a curriculum that promotes recovery, progression and future aspirations.
Although the post is for 12 months initially, there may be scope to extend this.
Role overview
The initial priority for this role is to support the delivery of food technology lessons. Over time, the subject focus may evolve in response to the changing needs of the school. The successful candidate must therefore be willing and able to contribute to a broader curriculum offer as required.
What you will do
- With the professional support of a qualified teacher, plan and deliver engaging curriculum lessons for individuals, groups and whole classes, with an initial priority focus on food technology.
- Teach classes independently where required. A qualified teacher will provide professional support, advice and quality assurance for planning, curriculum sequencing and assessment, but will not routinely teach alongside the postholder in class.
- Work with individuals and small groups, and teach whole classes as required, to deliver the curriculum and enable strong progress across a range of subjects.
- Collaborate with health professionals, schools, attendance teams and external agencies.
- Support students’ wellbeing and educational outcomes.
- Use online platforms and ICT confidently to enhance learning.
- Work across multiple sites.
Who you are
- A qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant, or a candidate with equivalent relevant experience or qualifications.
- Experienced in engaging hard-to-reach learners, ideally within mainstream, special or alternative provision.
- Confident in planning for mixed-age and mixed-ability groups.
- Able to plan and deliver lessons independently while working within professional guidance from a qualified teacher.
- Flexible, compassionate and committed to inclusive education and student wellbeing.
- Willing to teach across a range of subjects as the needs of the school develop.
- Strong in the use of ICT and online learning platforms.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Prepared to work across different sites and, where required, in student homes.
Practical details
- Salary: Grade 10, SCP 24 to 27 pro rata per annum
- Hours: 34.5 hours per week, term time only plus 5 days
- Contract type: Temporary
- Location: Cloughside College hospital and community sites
Additional information
