Summary

Job Profile Summary As an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary team, the highly specialist respiratory/surgery Physiotherapist will assess, treat and manage their own caseload and provide highly specialist respiratory physiotherapy skills. This role will report directly to Clinical Lead ICU Physiotherapist and be part of a highly innovative, evidence based, forward thinking critical care therapy team. This role will provide therapy provision to surgical service and work within the wider respiratory team covering acute respiratory areas and ICU. The role will focus on service delivery of a high quality, robust and highly effective therapy provision to surgery, acute respiratory and intensive care areas. With support from the Clinical Lead ICU Physiotherapist this role will develop and progress education and research within respiratory physiotherapy such as advanced tracheostomy management, ventilation weaning and respiratory physiotherapy provision. The role will motivate, empower, coach and develop team members through supervision frameworks. The role will have line management responsibility for Physiotherapy Caregivers within the acute physiotherapy team including annual appraisal duties. Job Responsibilities - Assist in operational management and deliver respiratory physiotherapy with advanced assessment, management and clinical reasoning to surgical and respiratory patients including the acutely deteriorating patient linking in with the wider MDT - Provide and act as a source of clinical expertise in the physiotherapy management of ICU / surgical / respiratory patients to MDT deputizing for the clinical lead ICU Physiotherapist as required - Educate and train physiotherapists and other MDT members with innovation and passion around respiratory care, the role of physiotherapy and acute rehabilitation. - Take a proactive lead in using routine outcome measures to improve patient care - Provide highly supportive supervision and coaching to other therapists - Keep informed of evidence, changes to practice, relevant research and guidance to discuss at regular opportunities to progress and develop own / MDT practice - Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, ensuring a high standard of care, actively encourages and motivates others to do the same - Be part of the on call and weekend staffing provision as per service requirements - Identify areas of research and quality improvement priorities to add to wider respiratory physiotherapy development strategy. - Assist in identification, mitigation and management of risks as part of clinical governance
