Kitchen Assistant / Store / Porter – Join Our Team!

Location: Open University, Milton Keynes
Pay: £13.45 per hour
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am – 1:00pm ( 25 hrs weekly)

The Kitchen Assistant will support the smooth running of the kitchen by assisting with daily operations, including sorting and storing deliveries, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and providing general assistance to chefs and kitchen staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, check, and correctly store deliveries in line with food safety standards.
  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen work areas, equipment, and storage.
  • Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed, including washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, and managing waste.
  • Assist in setting up the kitchen each day.
  • Comply with health, safety, and food hygiene regulations at all times.
  • Support kitchen staff with any other duties as reasonably required.
  • Any reasonable task by management team

Skills & Qualities

  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Team player with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety (training will be provided).

Requirements

  • Previous kitchen or catering experience desirable but not essential.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and carry out manual handling tasks.
