Summary


We are seeking to appoint a highly motivatedSenior Genomics Technicianto join the Genomics Research Platform and Single Cell Laboratory within the R&D Department at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Our laboratory employs state-of-the-art genomics technologies to accelerate the translation of research into clinical applications. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong interest in genomics to contribute to cutting-edge research projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our genomics service provision, enabling both academic and clinical research projects. Experience is next-generation sequencing (NGS) is essential, and experience with single-cell or spatial transcriptomics technologies is highly desirable. In this role, you will contribute to advancing innovative research with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes.

As a Senior Genomics Technician, you will undertake scientific projects using a wide range of genomics workflows, driving experiments inbulk-cell sequencing,single-cell analysis, andspatial transcriptomics, providing critical insights for our research objectives. You will play a pivotal role in theoptimisation and validation of R&D workflows, evaluating and integrating emerging, cutting-edge technologies into our core pipeline. Working within a collaborative team, you will provide essential technical support and mentorship, ensuring that high-quality data and project outputs are delivered with precision and efficiency.



You will hold at least a BSc (or equivalent) in Biology/Life Sciences or relevant discipline plus experience gained through working in a research/service lab. Knowledge, skills and experience in genomics techniques is essential.



Key responsibilities:
• Workflow execution: Perform end-to-end genomics experiments, from sample preparation to library construction to sequencing, using state-of-the-art platforms.
• Innovation and R&D: Contribute to the development and refinement of lab protocols to enhance sensitivity, throughput and data quality.
• Technical expertise: As the technical expert in genomics workflows, provide training and guidance to junior team members, service users and collaborators.
• Operational Excellence: Maintain rigorous quality control standards and manage project timelines to ensure seamless delivery of results.

As a key member of our specialist team, you will utilise a range of advanced molecular biology techniques to process samples using the latest genomics platforms. Main Duties and Responsibilities


• Service Provision:Deliver high-quality genomics services to platform users, including single-cell transcriptomics profiling, spatial transcriptomics, and bulk DNA/RNA sequencing.
• Operational Excellence:Maintain meticulous records of all laboratory work and service operations for assigned projects, ensuring full traceability and data integrity.
• Collaboration & Communication:Work synergistically with team members and key stakeholders across GSTT and KCL to ensure a streamlined and efficient service.
• Research & Development:Actively contribute to the development and refinement of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and experimental protocols.
• Scientific Engagement:Participate in group meetings, contribute to data discussions, and present experimental findings to the wider team.

Qualifications and Experience
• BSc/MSc/PhD in Biomedical Science or an equivalent discipline with a proven track record in molecular biology workflows.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in genomics/molecular biology, specifically within a research or service laboratory environment.
• Hands-on experience in manual or automated library preparation for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS).
• Ability to strictly follow SOPs and worksheets with exceptional attention to detail to ensure reproducible results.
• Proven ability to work independently and complete complex projects within defined timelines and budgetary constraints.
• A fast learner who is receptive to specialised training and comfortable working under close supervision during the initial training period.
