Senior Account Executive (Commercial Insurance)

Location: Birmingham
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
Salary: £50,000 – £80,000+ DOE

Our client is a mid-sized, specialist insurance broker with 8 staff, where all employees are expected to support across the business when required. The workload is broad but involves minimal input across different areas and is not fast-paced or demanding. The business provides a reliable, personal and professional service, arranging comprehensive and competitive insurance solutions tailored to client needs.

The role requires a self-sufficient individual with the ability to work on their own initiative. This is primarily a self-generated role, with a preference for candidates who can bring business with them.

The Role

The Senior Account Executive will play a key role in driving the continued growth of RBA Commercial Insurance by securing new commercial clients and managing a portfolio of existing accounts. The role is focused on delivering a highly professional, personal, and reliable service, ensuring clients receive the most comprehensive insurance solutions tailored to their specific business needs. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to both colleagues and clients, combining strong market knowledge with a consultative sales approach to build long-term, profitable relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

• Proactively identify, target, and secure new commercial insurance opportunities across a range of industries
• Develop and execute a structured business development strategy to achieve and exceed revenue targets
• Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified prospects through networking, referrals, and market engagement
• Attend industry events, client meetings, and networking opportunities to promote the business and generate leads
• Deliver high-quality presentations and proposals to prospective clients, clearly articulating value and service offering
• Build, develop, and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients at the decision-maker level
• Act as a trusted advisor, understanding clients’ businesses, risks, and strategic objectives
• Conduct regular client reviews to ensure insurance programmes remain appropriate and competitive
• Provide ongoing support and advice throughout the policy lifecycle, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction
• Handle complex client queries and provide expert guidance in a timely and professional manner
• Analyse client risk exposures and design tailored insurance programmes to meet their needs
• Prepare and present risk information to insurers in a clear and compelling manner
• Negotiate with insurers to secure the most comprehensive cover and competitive terms
• Work closely with internal broking teams to ensure accurate and efficient placement of policies
• Ensure all documentation, presentations, and recommendations are accurate and compliant
• Identify opportunities to cross-sell and up-sell additional insurance products and services
• Strengthen client relationships to increase account value and long-term profitability
• Manage renewals proactively, ensuring timely engagement and competitive outcomes
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the commercial insurance market, including insurer appetite and emerging risks
• Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities to differentiate RBA’s offering
• Stay informed of regulatory requirements and ensure compliance in all client interactions
• Work collaboratively with broking, Renewal Team, claims, and support teams to deliver a seamless client experience
• Provide clear and accurate instructions to internal teams to ensure efficient service delivery
• Share market insights and contribute to team knowledge and overall business strategy
• Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate
• Meet and exceed individual sales and income targets
• Maintain accurate records of client interactions and pipeline activity
• Provide regular updates to management on business development progress and forecasts
• Ensure all activity is aligned with company processes, compliance standards, and FCA requirements

Requirements

Essential

• Proven track record in commercial insurance sales and account management (typically 15+ years)
• Strong technical knowledge of commercial insurance products and markets
• Experience within an insurance broker environment
• Demonstrated ability to win, retain, and grow client accounts
• Cert CII qualified
• Knowledge of Insurance software houses, preferably Acturis
• Good Insurer relations that can improve our insurance products
• Highly developed sales, negotiation, and influencing skills
• Strong relationship-building ability with senior stakeholders
• Commercially astute with a strategic mindset
• Self-motivated, proactive, and target-driven
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and client focus
