Summary

The post holder will liaise with and provide consultation to colleagues working in primary, secondary, tertiary care along with staff from other agencies, in particular Social Services, Education and the voluntary sector with regard to the mental health needs of children and young people, their families and carer networks. They will assist with and contribute to the development and implementation of team and multi-agency projects. The post holder will use post-doctoral training received in specialist therapies in order to plan, deliver and evaluate interventions and/or treatments when there are complex issues involved for this client group. The post holder will have the skills to communicate complex information with empathy and sensitivity to clients and families, possibly within a highly emotive atmosphere. They will also ensure information is shared appropriately with other professionals by convening and chairing multi-disciplinary network meetings and compiling psychology reports. The post holder will contribute to multi agency care planning, involving the assessment of complex health and well-being needs and develop, monitor and review care plans in order to meet those needs. They will be expected to follow protocols devised by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and deliver a service from evidence-based practice. The post holder will be involved in researching and developing new systems of specialist psychological provision in our service. These will be conducted as agreed by line managers. They will need to be innovative in considering ways in which psychological assessment and interventions are conducted and delivered either directly to children and young people or by means of other involved professionals/ voluntary organisations. They will participate as a multi-disciplinary member of the service in setting and reviewing therapeutic aims, objectives, standards and strategies to provide the highest attainable standard of health care to clients and health care and preventative practice. The post holder will develop multi agency ways of thinking about the mental health and emotional well-being as used for this group of children and develop multi agency thinking in regard to this group of children and young people. The post holder will be expected to initiate, develop and participate in clinical research, evaluation and audit of the service. They will be expected to engage in clinical governance. They will maintain activity data, records and statistical returns in accordance with CAMHS policy. The post holder will, through pursuing appropriate training and continued professional development, continue to develop their specialist clinical interests and expertise as appropriate to the needs of the teams to which they contribute and the service as a whole. As a result, the post holder will provide specialist therapeutic services and provide advice on approaches/problems on which they has particular expertise. The post holder will keep informed on current psychological practice in the field of child, adolescent and family mental health and foster good psychological practice and skills within the service. The post holder will keep themselves appraised of relevant legislation e.g. Childrens Act, Child Protection legislation etc. The post holder will be involved in the teaching within clinical psychology services.They will develop and undertake the formal and informal training of other disciplines and groups working with children and young people in care and their families. This may include teaching to Social Services, Education, foster carers and voluntary organisations as well as contributing to the Doctorate and Clinical Psychology Training at Plymouth University. They will be expected to develop collaborative and effective working links within CAMHS and with other agencies (Social Services, Education, Primary Care, child mental Health and voluntary sector) in order to promote good psychological care for the children and young people who use the service. To attend meetings of psychologists in CAMHS and the organisation and contribute to the development of psychology within the service. The post holder will be able to work independently whilst ensuring they pursue clinical supervision as and when required to manage a complex caseload. The post holder will receive clinical managerial supervision from a Clinical Psychologist in the service. The post holder will facilitate in joint and peer supervision with colleagues from the same and different disciplines. The post holder will, as requested, take responsibility for the supervision of assistant clinical psychologists, trainee psychologists and undergraduate students on placement. In carrying out their activities, the post holder will be guided by the code of ethics of the British Psychological Society, the Societys Division of Clinical Psychology and protocols developed within the Organisation. The post holder will need to meet HCPC requirements.
