Summary
You will be a key contact in the Democratic Services Team so will need to be approachable, an excellent communicator and have the ability to solve problems.
The role requires a person with enthusiasm for the political environment and a commitment to supporting democratic decision making. The successful candidate will work at the heart of the Council working closely with the Executive, the Mayor, Committee Chairs, elected Members and senior officers.
You will already have extensive knowledge of local authority decision-making together with an ability to approach politically sensitive issues with diplomacy and tact. The ideal candidate will have experience of managing a democratic team or be a senior democratic services officer looking for their first role in heading up a team. You should be a team player. You will be able to work with modern IT systems, e (e.g. Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, Modgov and Proactis and work to strict deadlines.
You will co-ordinate and support procurement within the Council and give advice on public contract regulations. Experience in procurement is desirable but not essential.
This is a Politically Restricted Post within the meaning of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
