Job Description
Baxterstorey is seeking a friendly and detail-oriented Barista to join our team in Oxford. As a Barista, you will be at the heart of our café operations, delivering exceptional coffee and beverages to our customers whilst maintaining the highest standards of service and product quality. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment where your passion for coffee and customer service will truly shine.
- Prepare and serve a variety of espresso-based beverages, speciality coffees, and other hot and cold drinks to the highest standard
- Operate and maintain espresso machines and other café equipment, ensuring they are clean, well-maintained, and functioning optimally
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service, taking orders accurately and responding to customer enquiries with professionalism
- Manage the Point of Sale (POS) system, processing payments and maintaining accurate transaction records
- Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment, adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations at all times
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth café operations during peak and quiet periods
- Stock and rotate ingredients, ensuring adequate supplies of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other consumables
- Demonstrate product knowledge and make recommendations to customers based on their preferences
- Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere by engaging with customers and building positive relationships
- Follow company procedures and policies, including health and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Barista or in a similar café/hospitality role
- Proficiency in operating espresso machines and other café equipment
- Strong knowledge of coffee varieties, origins, and brewing techniques
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanour
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining quality standards
- Proficiency with Point of Sale (POS) systems
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Strong communication and people skills
- Awareness of food hygiene and safety standards
- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment
- Desirable: Barista certification or formal training qualification
- Desirable: Experience with latte art and advanced beverage techniques
- Desirable: Knowledge of specialty coffee and sustainable sourcing practices
