Summary
Desian Education are proud to be supporting a prestigious SEND specialist school in Chester that supports pupils between the ages of 4 – 16 with ASD and speech and language requirements. This school is looking to appoint a number of experienced and reliable teaching assistants for full-time temporary contracts starting from September, with permanent contracts being considered for the right applicants.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school you will be joining a team of experienced and supportive SEND professionals. You will work in collaboration with teachers and teaching assistants to promote the engagement and development of all pupils by taking a pupil centred approach as to ensure that each pupils individual needs are at the heart of all operations. The majority of pupils within this school are also non-verbal and have low capacity so the focus will be on their developmental, sensory and communication requirements rather than academic outcomes. You will:
- Work in collaboration with speech and language and occupational therapists
- Use of Makaton, PECs, SALT and other communication strategies
- Implement an array of positive behaviours strategies including sensory rooms, pressure therapy, traffic light systems, etc
- Assisting with intimate/personal care
What you need to succeed:
- Full “Right to Work” in the UK
- Experience supporting young people with SEN within a classroom or residential setting, ASD and non-verbal is highly advantageous
- Use of PECS, Makaton and other visual references is advantageous
- Be able to commit to a full-time contract consisting of 32.5 hours per week
- An Enhanced Children’s DBS certificate of willingness to obtain
