Summary

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at one of our office locations noted above

About this opportunity

The Engineering Platform team is on a mission to create the next generation technical platform for Lloyds Banking Group, a single platform consumed by every engineer and platform across the entire group! You'll be at the heart of one of the UK's biggest financial service technical transformations maximising the use of shared tools and technology across our entire organisation.

We'll need you to roll up your sleeves, reviewing and writing code, defining APIs, building prototypes, doing design spikes and leading other engineers in the team in designing and building our products!

Some of the activities you and your team will be doing

Technical vision and direction: You'll be instrumental in defining the technical vision, architecture, and execution of our productivity tools roadmap, focusing on measurement, analysis, and continuous improvement, looking industry wide to ensure we embrace the latest and greatest in emerging technology practices.

Product Development & Execution: Leading a team of engineers to design, develop, and deploy high-quality engineering productivity and collaboration tools, ensuring scalability, reliability and security as they go.

Leadership and coaching, we'll be looking for you to:

  • proudly represent your products as an advocate broadly within the organisation; soliciting feedback and equally acknowledging successes
  • critique designs conducting technical architectures and code reviews
  • ensuring optimum solutions, coaching and mentoring others as you go
  • identifying areas for development
  • ensuring there is a variety of complementary skills across the team.

2. Experience needed

  • Programming in several languages: Java, Python, Golang, JavaScript with ability to be hands on and create prototypes and MVPs.
  • Delivery of complex software projects via software development methods, including Agile and DevOps.
  • Delivering infrastructure as code-based solutions based on known languages (terraform, Pulumi, Ansible)
  • Building and designing platforms and tools at scale on cloud platforms specifically GCP Data Analytics products.
  • Version control systems (Git), working with CI/CD, DevOps approaches and a passion for automation
  • Defining user journeys, architectures and APIs using different paradigms and technologies (REST, gRPC, GraphQL)
  • Contributing to open-source projects related to engineering productivity would be ideal

Any experience of these would be useful

  • Machine learning and AI for productivity optimisation, statistical analysis and with building and maintaining internal platforms, tools and SDKS would be advantageous
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian suite (Jira and Confluence)
  • Harness.io and/or Github actions, or Kubernetes as both administrator and application developer is a benefit
