Summary

Join us as Head of Secured Funding, Treasury Markets

  • You’ll lead as first line of defence, supervising a team responsible for managing the secured funding within the ring-fenced bank
  • Support the Balance Sheet Management programme, helping deliver strategic priorities under the ‘Active Balance Sheet & Risk Management’ agenda
  • You’ll work closely with senior management, representing Treasury Markets and advising on secured funding matters, offering visibility, influence and a strong platform for career progression
  • This is an office first role, so you'll be based in the office at least 4 days a week

What you’ll do

As Head of Secured Funding, you’ll develop and drive the optimisation strategy for secured funding, supporting the management of the bank’s funding and liquidity position across key metrics including LCR, NSFR and SOC, among others. Overseeing the planning and execution of the team’s business strategy, you’ll make sure secured funding activities are resilient, well‑governed and aligned to the overall balance sheet management objectives.

You’ll be accountable for the accurate and timely delivery of regulatory and investor reporting, including submissions to the Bank of England, PRA and FCA, and you'll represent the bank in regulatory engagement relating to secured funding markets. This will include managing our secondary liquidity position with the central bank, which helps underpin the safety and soundness of the bank.

Your work will focus on:

  • Operating as the first line of defence, executing transactions that meet the regulatory requirements and balance sheet objectives in an optimal, low cost way
  • Leading the Middle Office responsible for the ongoing management and oversight of live trades
  • Supervising and developing the team, securing accurate P&L delivery, clear accountability, strong documentation and appropriate capability across secured‑funding activities
  • Working closely with Treasury teams on wider initiatives covering funding, intraday liquidity, balance sheet management, liquidity management and stress testing
  • Monitoring peer strategies and market developments, assessing secured funding trends alongside regulatory and market change to inform strategic positioning
  • Supporting Green, Social & Sustainability (GSS) labelled bond initiatives, through active management and reporting of collateral used to support these transactions
  • Maintaining strong people and performance management, including oversight of responsibilities, controls and records to make sure the team operates effectively and sustainably

The skills you'll need

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring significant structuring experience gained within a Treasury or Markets environment, including direct experience of liability origination in the UK. You’ll have deep expertise in covered bond and securitisation structuring and origination, alongside a strong understanding of how residential mortgages operate as security collateral. You’ll also bring a solid grasp of commercial bank balance sheet management, including liquidity, capital and interest rate and FX risk management. This enables you to operate confidently at the intersection of funding strategy, resilience and regulatory expectations.

You’ll also demonstrate:

  • Proven experience managing key stakeholders across Audit, Rating Agencies and Finance, including Accounting Policy and Tax
  • Supervisory and line management experience, with the ability to lead teams effectively and maintain strong standards
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the confidence to work across teams and levels, including senior executives and Group ExCo
  • Experience working under pressure against formal performance targets, prioritising effectively and meeting strict deadlines
  • The ability to adapt to change in a complex, dynamic environment, working flexibly, independently and with strong self-motivation
