Summary

Family Solicitor – Luton, Bedfordshire

Full Time | £35,000 – £50,000 per annum (DOE)
Also open to Consultant / Fee-Share basis

Our client is a well-established family law firm with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, client-focused legal services. Their team of specialist solicitors works across a range of family law matters, including domestic abuse, children law, and complex financial disputes.

They are now seeking a Family Solicitor (NQ–3 PQE) to join their Luton office. The firm is open to both traditional employed roles and consultant / fee-share arrangements, depending on the candidate’s experience and preference.

Role Overview

You will manage a varied caseload of family law matters, including both Legal Aid and private work. Matters include:

• Divorce and Financial Remedy Proceedings
• Private and Public Children Law cases
• Domestic abuse matters and emergency injunctions
• Cohabitation disputes and TOLATA claims
• Schedule 1 Children Act applications
• Pre-nuptial agreements and related family matters

Requirements

Essential

Candidates must demonstrate:

• NQ–3 years PQE in Family Law
• Strong working knowledge of Legal Aid processes, including eligibility assessments and applications
• Experience handling family law casework (public and/or private)
• Ability to manage a caseload independently with appropriate supervision where needed
• Strong drafting, advocacy preparation, and client care skills
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Competence using case management systems and general IT tools
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
• Professional, reliable, and able to meet deadlines consistently

Desirable

The following are advantageous but not essential:

• Experience with both Legal Aid and private fee-paying work
• Existing client following or portable work
• Previous experience assisting senior solicitors on complex or high-value matters
• Exposure to billing and private client financial processes
• Broader experience across multiple areas of family law (e.g. TOLATA, Schedule 1, injunction work)
• Prior experience in a busy high-volume family law practice
• Familiarity with working in lean, fast-paced legal environments

Working Arrangement & Structure

• The role is not purely volume-driven, despite the nature of Legal Aid work
• Caseloads are designed to be manageable and appropriately supported
• There is flexibility in the balance between Legal Aid and private work, depending on experience and preference
• A structured onboarding process is provided, including initial supervision and ongoing support (particularly for junior candidates)
• Systems, infrastructure, and support arrangements can be tailored and discussed at interview stage
• Candidates will be assessed on overall suitability, capability, and fit, rather than assumptions regarding workload intensity.

What’s on Offer

• £35,000 – £50,000 (DOE) for employed candidates
• Consultant / Fee-Share option available for suitable candidates
• 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
• Training and ongoing professional development
• Supportive and collaborative team environment
• Flexible structure depending on candidate profile
