About the Role
We’re looking for a Children’s Residential Business Support Officer to join our Children’s Support Services.
This post provides dedicated business support to Sherwin Road and Mettham Street Children’s Residential Homes, working closely with Registered Managers, Assistant Managers, and Children’s Residential Social Care Workers (CRSCWs).
The role provides comprehensive, flexible administrative and operational support, helping to ensure consistent service delivery and positive outcomes for children and young people. You will support the day‑to‑day running of the homes, including:
Financial monitoring and processing
Maintaining accurate records and systems
Organising meetings and producing minutes
Liaising with internal and external professionals
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential Qualifications
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Or relevant experience demonstrating equivalent skills
Essential Experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Experience of working in a pressured, confidential environment
Experience of using financial systems and case management tools
Essential Knowledge
Understanding of business support processes within a local authority setting
Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and confidentiality within children’s services
Knowledge of UK data protection legislation, including GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
Essential Skills and Competencies
Strong communication skills (face‑to‑face, telephone and written)
Excellent minute‑taking and record‑keeping skills
Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Problem‑solving skills with a proactive and solution‑focused approach
High levels of discretion when working in sensitive environments
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
