Summary

Looking for a fun and dynamic Personal Assistant to support our 16yr old Boy in building independent skills at home and in the community. Supporting him in accessing leisure facilities and community spaces using public transport, building confidence and encouraging social interaction whilst promoting independence. Rowan has a very calming temperament and is a patient and thoughtful young man who does not have any behavioural challenges and is typically no different to most teenaged boys. He is a capable young man who is sharp and witty with a fantastic sense of humour. Rowan attends mainstream school where he is independent around the school and accesses all lessons using his laptop. He has many interests including cricket, football, formula 1, aviation, online flight simulations as well as playstation to name a few. He enjoys reading about history and watching comedy programmes. Rowan has cerebral palsy and uses an electric wheelchair outdoors. He is able to walk short distances using his walking frame so this is his main way of getting around the house. He can transfer independently, so is able to use the bathroom, but requires some support when pulling his trousers up/down and when dressing with shoes and socks and tighter clothing such as a jacket. Rowan struggles with some fine motor activities such as opening a lunch box and cutting his food, but perseveres and never gives up. He is still learning and improving these skills and a big part of the role of the PA will be to patiently observe, guide, support and encourage him to further develop these necessary life skills. You may be required to carry out some light stretching and facilitate some exercises with Rowan. The parents are happy to show you how to do this and we can arrange for you to attend some of Rowan’s physiotherapy and fitness sessions where you will be able to learn the necessary skills to carry out the exercises in a safe way for both you and Rowan.
