Summary
Duties of the post This post is envisaged to comprise a full 10 PAs and will be based entirely at the Whittington site. This post is a replacement Colorectal job for a departed colleague. The job will encompass all aspects of general surgery with the possibility of developing sub-speciality interests such as IBD, major abdominal wall reconstruction, pelvic floor etc. The successful candidate should have experience in major colorectal resectional surgery and proctology. Experience in Robotically assisted colorectal resections will be desirable as the department has recently acquired its first robotic platform. There will be the opportunity for JAG-accredited surgeons to perform regular endoscopy. There is a well-developed weekly benign GI MDT in which a successful candidate will be expected to be an integral member. The role encompasses an Emergency General Surgery component with a current 4 surgeon model in place. This allows for 3 elective weeks punctuated with a week (Mon-Thu 8am-6pm, Friday 8am 12pm) of emergency surgical commitment. This includes a daily consultant led post take ward round and responsibility for the acute surgical in-patients as well as CEPOD operating. It is envisaged that this will expand to a 5-person model within the coming 18 months when replacement for colleagues who are considering to retire are planned. Further expansion of the EGS model is planned in the longer-term vision of the unit. The post also includes night consultant cover and weekend cover as part of the general surgery oncall rota. Please see the attached job description for further details and a sample timetable.
